Socios.com, a blockchain-powered fan interaction and incentives platform, will become a strategic technology partner for FC Barcelona’s blockchain, NFT and digital assets, and Web3 plans, according to an announcement made by FC Barcelona. Chiliz, the owner of Socios.com and a technology firm, will invest $100 million in Barca Studios to buy a 24.5% ownership in the digital content development and distribution centre for the Club.
The digital strategy of FC Barcelona and the NFT and metaverse projects of Barca Studios engage, reward, and connect its global followers. The new partnership will assist the Club in developing important digital goods for its fans and generating long-term income.
Using blockchain technology to connect followers to the Club, Barca Studios will be able to engage fans and generate revenue in new places thanks to Socios.com’s reach throughout international fan networks. As part of the strategic partnership, Socios.com and Barca Studios will launch projects to seek the most innovative blockchain and Web3 partners to construct new Barcelona FC ecosystem features.
Barça Studios will also benefit from Chiliz’s technological expertise, which powers and supports Socios.com. The new collaboration will expose Barça Studios to Chiliz Chain 2.0 (CC2), the first Layer-1 blockchain for sports and entertainment. CC2 lets brands mint NFTs and Fan Tokens, build DeFi products and Play2Earn games, and create event, loyalty, and merchandising programs, unlocking Web3’s immense potential. Socios.com expects the CC2 mainnet debut in Q4 2022.
